Film Review 1: Split

Age Rating: 15

Film Length: 1 hour and 57 minutes

Release Date: 20th January 2017 (UK)

Summary: Three girls are kidnapped by a man who suffers from 23 different personalities. However, as his 24th starts to appear, it seems that the girls and everyone else’s lives are at risk.

Directed by M Night Shyamalan, Split is a film that concentrates on a character who suffers from a split personality disorder, hence the film name “Split”.  There have never been any previous films which have covered the topic of this particular mental illness before which intrigues me as not many films are original nowadays.

James McAvoy’s acting throughout the film was incredible as he had to act as 23 different characters throughout. The film was quite creepy at times, particularly when one of the 23 personalities named ‘the beast’ would crawl up walls and chase its victims. However, there were more humorous moments throughout the film – particularly from the character known as ‘Hedwig’.

Overall, it was one of the best thriller films I have ever watched due to the fantastic acting from James McAvoy put together with the unique film idea. It proved suspenseful from start to end and finished on a cliff hanger to leave audiences wanting more.

I give this film a rating of 9/10.
