Film Review 2: The Nun

The official poster for the film ‘The Nun’

Age Rating: 15

Film Length: 1 hour and 36 minutes

Release Date: 7th September 2018 (UK)

Summary: A priest and his companion are sent to Romania by the Vatican church to uncover the mystery behind the death of a nun. In doing so, they have to confront an insidious demon who takes the form of a nun.

Written by James Wan, the nun is the fifth movie in the conjuring universe to be made, however, in chronological order, it is the first. Speaking briefly about the other four movies in this universe, the stories all tie in with one another which makes the timeline of films more interesting and worthwhile as there can often be seen hidden clues relating to the other films embedded in.

I felt this film had the potential to be one of the scariest in the franchise due to the fact that it had been long anticipated. The malevolent nun known as ‘Valek’ had previously been involved in the conjuring 2 and this was a huge success which made plans to make this film fall into place.

Overall, I would say the film was fairly average as it lacks creepiness by not offering any surprising jump scares. As the viewer, you are always able to guess when the next scare will occur which ruins the fun.

I give this film a rating of 6/10.
